How to find the root sign on the keyboard?
You needed to write a certain technical text related to mathematics, and you wondered how to write characters that are not on the standard keyboard layout? For example, the sign of the root, which is also called the radical. You probably noticed this designation on many sites. And this is not surprising, because even a standard notebook can display it. How to find the root on the keyboard? You'd be surprised, but it's very simple!
Method number 1. Use the Alt key and number pad
In order to use this method, make sure that your keyboard has a digital block (on the right or combined with letters) and that the NumLock indicator is on. If it is not lit, turn it on with the NumLock / NumLk key.
On laptops or compact keyboards, you may also need to press the Fn key, for more information on this, refer to the manual for your laptop. So, to dial the root symbol on the keyboard, you need to hold down the Alt key and successively enter the numbers 2, 5 and 1 on the number pad, and then release the clamped key.
If you did everything right, then a radical will appear on the screen. This is the easiest way to write a root on a keyboard. But what if you need a cubic or fourth-degree root? Unfortunately, this cannot be done in the same way, but it can be done by others, but they only work in the browser when preparing articles for websites. Let's talk about them below.
Method number 2. If your keyboard does not have a number pad
If it so happens that there is no digital block on your keyboard and there is no possibility to write the root on the keyboard in the first way - do not despair! You can also use any search engine and, by entering the “root sign” in it, get a symbol that can already be copied into your article.
If you do not have Internet, then you can use the standard Windows application - the symbol table. It is very easy to find. To do this, go to the "Start" menu, find the folder "Standard" in it, and in it - the folder "Tools". You can also press the key combination Win + R and in the field that opens, type charmap.exe and press Enter. This method is applicable not only to the root symbol, but also to others.
Method number 3. Use decimal code (HTML code)
This method also does not require the introduction of numbers from a digital unit. To add a square, cubic or fourth-degree root to your article in this way, you need to type the data of a sequence of characters and numbers on the keyboard:
- √ - for square root;
- ∛ - for a cubic root
- ∜ - for the root of the fourth degree.
Method number 4. Use Hex Code (Unicode)
This method is used extremely rarely because of its impracticality, but not to say about it would be an omission. Who knows when it will come in handy. If the site on which your article will be located works in Unicode (although UTF-8 has been used for a long time), you can use these sequences:
- & # x221A; - for square root;
- & # x221B; - for a cubic root;
- & # x221C; - for the root of the fourth degree.
As you can see, there is nothing difficult in a question how to find the square root on the keyboard. Now you know as many as four ways to write it, as well as a cubic or fourth-degree root.
